Goats FAQ
What makes Nigerian Dwarf goats special?
Nigerian Dwarfs are a small dairy breed known for their sweet personalities, colorful coats, and high-quality milk with a rich butterfat content. They make wonderful family milkers, companions, and even show animals.
Do you offer registered goats?
Yes! We offer goats with pedigrees through the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA). Our herd includes quality bucks, bucklings, and pet wethers. We occasionally have limited numbers of doelings available.
What is the difference between a buck, wether, and doe?
-
Buck: An intact male goat, used for breeding.
-
Wether: A neutered male goat, typically castrated around 10–12 weeks of age (when weaned). Wethers make excellent pets since they are friendly, affectionate, and odor-free compared to intact bucks.
-
Doe: A female goat, either a doeling (young) or adult, raised for breeding or milking.
Are Nigerian Dwarfs good for beginners?
Yes! Their smaller size makes them easier to handle than standard dairy breeds, and their curious, gentle nature makes them a joy for families, hobby farmers, and homesteaders alike.
Can I keep bucks and does together?
Not unless bucks are neutered. Intact bucks can breed does at a very young age, so if you want a mixed group, we recommend wethers or does only.
Do you sell goats for pets as well as breeding?
Absolutely. Many of our goats go to homes simply as pets or companions. Wethers are especially well-suited for this. We also work with families and breeders looking for quality stock to improve their herds.
How do goats fit into your farm?
Our goats are part of our farm family alongside our nursery, Countryside Gardens (est. 1989). In 2018 we added Sunny Sister Nigerian Dwarfs, and together we now share both plants and goats under the name Garden and Goats. We pour our passion into improving our herd, raising healthy animals, and sharing the bounty of our farm with others.
Shipping & Pickup FAQ
How will my goat get to me?
Most families choose to pick up their goat(s) directly from our farm so they can meet us and see the herd. In some cases, local delivery or arranged transport may be available. We’ll work with you to find the safest option.
Do goats travel well?
Yes, Nigerian Dwarfs adapt quickly to travel when properly crated. We recommend bringing a dog crate or small livestock carrier for safe transport home.
Are health checks provided before pickup?
Absolutely. Each goat leaves our farm in good health, and we provide information on their care, feeding, and any vaccinations or procedures completed before pickup.
Can I have a goat shipped long-distance?
At this time, we prefer not to ship goats by air. Ground transport may be possible depending on distance and availability—please contact us to discuss options.
When can I take my goat home?
Goat kids are typically ready to leave around 10–12 weeks of age (after weaning). This ensures they are strong, healthy, and well-adjusted before heading to their new homes.
What if my goat is leaving the state?
A health certificate from a licensed veterinarian is required for goats traveling out of state. All veterinary fees for health certificates or additional testing are the responsibility of the buyer.
